Negaasget
For many years, the Yup'ik Eskimos of southwestern Alaska have gathered edible plants, particularly "negaasget," or "mouse food," from the tundra between September and early November. This plant, named for the mice that collect and store its one to two-inch long roots for winter sustenance, is harvested before the tundra freezes.
