Classic Zimbabwean cornmeal porridge, the most popular dish in the country

Ingredients

2   cups water
1/2   teaspoon salt
1   cup finely milled maize meal such as Iwisa No. 1 super maize meal

Preparation

Step 1
Add water and salt to a pot and bring to a boil

Step 2
Add maize meal and whisk thoroughly until smooth, removing all lumps

Step 3
Reduce heat to low, cover pot with lid and simmer 25 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes with a wet wooden spoon

Step 4
Serve with stewed meat and leafy vegetables, called sadza nenyama nemuriwo in Zimbabwe

Note: This recipe is from a package of Iwisa No. 1 super maize meal. The ingredients were halved and cook time was reduced.
