Buttermilk Biscuits - The World's Food

Yield: 12 biscuits

Perfect homestyle buttermilk biscuits. Top with butter, jelly, gravy or make into breakfast sandwiches. Easy and delicious!
Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup butter (2 sticks), grated with a cheese grater and chilled
2 cups buttermilk
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F
Step 2
Mix flour, salt, baking soda, cream of tartar and baking powder
Step 3
Mix in buttermilk, adjust with a little buttermilk if too dry
Step 4
Cut butter into flour mixture. Do not overmix
Step 5
On a floured surface, roll dough until 1 inch thick
Step 6
Cut dough into round biscuits and place on an ungreased baking sheet
Step 7
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until tops are golden. Brush tops with melted butter, if desired.
