Chandrakala

Chandrakala is a dessert from Tamil Nadu, similar to gujia. The outer covering is made of flour and the stuffing is traditionally made using dry fruits like raisins, coconut, almonds, and cashews, along with khoa, semolina, cardamom(elaichi), sugar, and pistachio. Chandrakala gets the name from the shape. Chandrakala in Hindi means moonlight, so it’s moon shaped. The outside is made of one dough circle that was folded over to form it's moon shape. Similarly there is a sweet called suryakala which is made of the same ingredients in the same fashion but seals two circles of dough together to make a sun shape as surya means sun.
