Lettuce Wraps (生菜包, San Choy Bow) - The World's Food

Tender butter lettuce filled with a sweet and savory Asian-inspired pork or chicken mixture with hoisin sauce, garlic, ginger and water chestnuts

Ingredients

2   Tablespoons vegetable oil
1   pound ground chicken or pork
6   cloves garlic, minced
1   onion, diced
1/2   cup hoisin sauce
2   Tablespoons soy sauce
1   Tablespoon rice vinegar
2   teaspoons grated ginger
2   teaspoons sriracha
1   8-ounce can water chestnuts, drained and diced
6   green onions, thinly sliced
*   Salt, to taste
1   head butter lettuce
*   Optional: Rice noodles, bean sprouts, cilantro, chili garlic sauce, sweet chili sauce

Preparation

Step 1
Heat oil in Dutch oven over medium high heat and add ground meat

Step 2
Break meat into smaller pieces and cook until browned

Step 3
Add garlic, onion, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, ginger and sriracha and cook until onions become translucent, about 5 minutes

Step 4
Add chestnuts and green onions and cook until tender, about 5 minutes

Step 5
Add salt to taste, if desired

Step 6
Allow mixture to cool 5-10 minutes 

Step 7
Add mixture to a butter lettuce with any additional desired ingredients
