Adansonia is a genus made up of eight species of medium to large deciduous trees known as baobabs (). they are placed in the malvaceae family, subfamily bombacoideae. they are native to madagascar, mainland africa, sw asia and australia. trees have also been introduced to other regions such as asia. the generic name honours michel adanson, the french naturalist and explorer who described adansonia digitata. the baobab is also known as the "upside down tree", a name that originates from several myths. they are among the most long-lived of vascular plants and have large flowers that are reproductive for a maximum of 15 hours. the flowers open around dusk; opening so quickly that movement can be detected by the naked eye and are faded by the next morning. the fruits are large, oval to round and berry-like and hold kidney-shaped seeds in a dry, pulpy matrix. in the early 21st century, baobabs in southern africa began to die off rapidly from a cause yet to be determined. scientists believe it is unlikely that disease or pests were able to kill many trees so rapidly, and some speculated that the die-off was a result of dehydration.

Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, the seeds of berries from certain flowering plants in the coffea genus. from the coffee fruit, the seeds are separated to produce a stable, raw product: unroasted green coffee. the seeds are then roasted, a process which transforms them into a consumable product: roasted coffee, which is ground into fine particles that are typically steeped in hot water before being filtered out, producing a cup of coffee. coffee is darkly colored, bitter, slightly acidic and has a stimulating effect in humans, primarily due to its caffeine content. it is one of the most popular drinks in the world and can be prepared and presented in a variety of ways (e.g., espresso, french press, caffè latte, or already-brewed canned coffee). it is usually served hot, although chilled or iced coffee is common. sugar, sugar substitutes, milk or cream are often used to lessen the bitter taste or enhance the flavor. it may be served with coffee cake or another sweet dessert, like doughnuts. a commercial establishment that sells prepared coffee beverages is known as a coffeehouse or coffee shop (not to be confused with dutch coffeeshops selling cannabis). clinical research indicates that moderate coffee consumption is benign or mildly beneficial as a stimulant in healthy adults, with continuing research on whether long-term consumption has positive or negative effects.though coffee is now a global commodity, it has a long history tied closely to food traditions around the red sea. the earliest credible evidence of the drinking of coffee in the form of the modern beverage appears in modern-day yemen from the mid-15th century in sufi shrines, where coffee seeds were first roasted and brewed in a manner similar to current methods. the yemenis procured the coffee beans from the ethiopian highlands via coastal somali intermediaries and began cultivation. by the 16th century, the drink had reached the rest of the middle east and north africa, later spreading to europe. in the 20th century, coffee became a much more global commodity, creating different coffee cultures around the world. the two most commonly grown coffee bean types are c. arabica and c. robusta. coffee plants are cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in the equatorial regions of the americas, southeast asia, the indian subcontinent, and africa. as of 2018, brazil was the leading grower of coffee beans, producing 35% of the world total. coffee is a major export commodity as the leading legal agricultural export for numerous countries. it is one of the most valuable commodities exported by developing countries. green, unroasted coffee is the most traded agricultural commodity and one of the most traded commodities overall, second only to petroleum. despite the sales of coffee reaching billions of dollars, those actually producing the beans are disproportionately living in poverty. critics also point to the coffee industry's negative impact on the environment and the clearing of land for coffee-growing and water use. the environmental costs and wage disparity of farmers are causing the market for fair trade and organic coffee to expand.

Maghrebi mint tea (maghrebi arabic: أتاي, atay; arabic: الشاي بالنعناع, romanized: aš-šhāy bin-na'nā'; berber languages: ⴰⵜⴰⵢ, romanized: atay), also known as moroccan mint tea is a north african green tea prepared with spearmint leaves and sugar. it is traditional to the greater maghreb region (the northwest african countries of morocco, algeria, tunisia, libya, and mauritania). its consumption has spread throughout north africa, parts of the sahel, france, spain, the arab world, and middle east. mint tea is central to social life in the maghreb. and is very popular among the tuareg people of algeria, libya, niger and mali. the serving can take a ceremonial form, especially when prepared for a guest. the tea is traditionally made by the head male in the family and offered to guests as a sign of hospitality. typically, at least three glasses of tea are served. the tea is consumed throughout the day as a social activity. the native spearmint naʿnāʿ (نعناع) possesses a clear, pungent, mild aroma, and is the mint that is traditionally used in maghrebi mint tea. other hybrids and cultivars of spearmint, including yerba buena, are occasionally used as substitutes for nana mint. in morocco, mint tea is sometimes perfumed with herbs, flowers, or orange blossom water. in the cold season, they add many warming herbs like pennyroyal mint and wormwood. mint has been used as an infusion, decoction, and herbal medicine throughout the mediterranean since antiquity. this aromatic plant was widely used in algeria to cure and prevent cholera when it plagued the country from 1835 until 1865.

Tea is an aromatic beverage prepared by pouring hot or boiling water over cured or fresh leaves of camellia sinensis, an evergreen shrub native to china, india and other east asian countries. tea is also rarely made from the leaves of camellia taliensis. after water, it is the most widely consumed drink in the world. there are many different types of tea; some have a cooling, slightly bitter, and astringent flavour, while others have vastly different profiles that include sweet, nutty, floral, or grassy notes. tea has a stimulating effect in humans primarily due to its caffeine content.tea plants are native to east asia and probably originated in the borderlands of southwestern china and northern burma. an early credible record of tea drinking dates to the third century ad, in a medical text written by hua tuo. it was popularised as a recreational drink during the chinese tang dynasty, and tea drinking subsequently spread to other east asian countries. portuguese priests and merchants introduced it to europe during the 16th century. during the 17th century, drinking tea became fashionable among the english, who started to plant tea on a large scale in india. the term herbal tea refers to drinks not made from camellia sinensis. they are the infusions of fruit, leaves, or other plant parts, such as steeps of rosehip, chamomile, or rooibos. these may be called tisanes or herbal infusions to prevent confusion with tea made from the tea plant.

Gazelle

A gazelle is one of many antelope species in the genus gazella. this article also deals with the seven species included in two further genera, eudorcas and nanger, which were formerly considered subgenera of gazella. a third former subgenus, procapra, includes three living species of asian gazelles. gazelles are known as swift animals. some are able to run at bursts as high as 100 km/h (60 mph) or run at a sustained speed of 50 km/h (30 mph). gazelles are found mostly in the deserts, grasslands, and savannas of africa; but they are also found in southwest and central asia and the indian subcontinent. they tend to live in herds, and eat fine, easily digestible plants and leaves. gazelles are relatively small antelopes, most standing 60–110 cm (2–3.5 ft) high at the shoulder, and are generally fawn-colored. the gazelle genera are gazella, eudorcas, and nanger. the taxonomy of these genera is confused, and the classification of species and subspecies has been an unsettled issue. currently, the genus gazella is widely considered to contain about 10 species. one subspecies is extinct: the queen of sheba's gazelle. most surviving gazelle species are considered threatened to varying degrees. closely related to the true gazelles are the tibetan goa and mongolian gazelles (species of the genus procapra), the blackbuck of asia, and the african springbok. one widely familiar gazelle is the african species thomson's gazelle (eudorcas thomsoni), which is around 60 to 70 cm (24 to 28 in) in height at the shoulder and is coloured brown and white with a distinguishing black stripe. the males have long, often curved, horns. like many other prey species, tommies and springboks (as they are familiarly called) exhibit a distinctive behaviour of stotting (running and jumping high before fleeing) when they are threatened by predators, such as cheetahs, lions, african wild dogs, crocodiles, hyenas, and leopards.

Café touba is a coffee beverage that is a popular traditional drink of senegal and (more recently) guinea-bissau, and is named for the city of touba, senegal. café touba is a coffee drink that is flavored with grains of selim or guinea pepper (the dried fruit of the shrub xylopia aethiopica) (locally known as djar, in the wolof language) and sometimes cloves. the addition of djar, imported to senegal from côte d'ivoire or gabon, is the important factor differentiating café touba from plain coffee. the spices are mixed and roasted with coffee beans, then ground into a powder. the drink is prepared using a filter, in a manner similar to that used to prepare drip coffee.

Espresso ( (listen), italian: [eˈsprɛsso]) is a coffee-brewing method of italian origin, in which a small amount of nearly boiling water (about 90 °c or 190 °f) is forced under 9–10 bars (900–1,000 kpa; 130–150 psi) of pressure through finely-ground coffee beans. espresso coffee can be made with a wide variety of coffee beans and roast degrees. espresso is the most common way of making coffee in southern europe, especially in italy, france, spain and portugal. it is also popular in switzerland, croatia, bulgaria, greece, and in australia. espresso is generally thicker than coffee brewed by other methods, with a viscosity similar to that of warm honey. this is due to the higher concentration of suspended and dissolved solids, and the crema on top (a foam with a creamy consistency). as a result of the pressurized brewing process, the flavors and chemicals in a typical cup of espresso are very concentrated. espresso has more caffeine per unit volume than most coffee beverages, but because the usual serving size is much smaller, the total caffeine content is less than a mug of standard brewed coffee. the actual caffeine content of any coffee drink varies by size, bean origin, roast method and other factors, but a typical 28 grams (1 ounce) serving of espresso usually contains 64.5 milligrams of caffeine, whereas a typical serving of drip coffee usually contains 150 to 200 mg.the three dispersed phases in espresso are what make this beverage unique. the first dispersed phase is an emulsion of oil droplets. the second phase is suspended solids, while the third is the layer of gas bubbles or foam. the dispersion of very small oil droplets is perceived in the mouth as creamy. this characteristic of espresso contributes to what is known as the body of the beverage. these oil droplets preserve some of the aromatic compounds that are lost to the air in other coffee forms. this preserves the strong coffee flavor present in the espresso.espresso is the base for various coffee drinks, including caffè latte, cappuccino, caffè macchiato, caffè mocha, flat white, and caffè americano.

Instant coffee

Instant coffee is a beverage derived from brewed coffee beans that enables people to quickly prepare hot coffee by adding hot water or milk to coffee solids in powdered or crystallized form and stirring. instant coffee solids (also called soluble coffee, coffee crystals, coffee powder, or powdered coffee) refers to the dehydrated and packaged solids available at retail used to make instant coffee. instant coffee solids are commercially prepared by either freeze-drying or spray drying, after which it can be rehydrated. instant coffee in a concentrated liquid form, as a beverage, is also manufactured. advantages of instant coffee include speed of preparation (instant coffee dissolves quickly in hot water), lower shipping weight and volume than beans or ground coffee (to prepare the same amount of beverage), and long shelf life—though instant coffee can spoil if not kept dry. instant coffee also reduces cleanup since there are no coffee grounds, and at least one study has found that it has a lower environmental footprint than drip filter coffee and capsule espresso coffee, on a prepared beverage basis, disregarding quality and appeal of the beverage produced.
