The avocado (persea americana) is a tree originating in the americas which is likely native to the highland regions of south-central mexico to guatemala. it is classified as a member of the flowering plant family lauraceae. the fruit of the plant, also called an avocado (or avocado pear or alligator pear), is botanically a large berry containing a single large seed. avocado trees are partially self-pollinating, and are often propagated through grafting to maintain predictable fruit quality and quantity.avocados are cultivated in tropical and mediterranean climates of many countries, with mexico as the leading producer of avocados in 2019, supplying 32% of the world total. avocado production is one of the most environmentally intensive fruits, using 70 litres (18 us gallons; 15 imperial gallons) of water per avocado, and over 400 grams of co2 emissions. in major production regions like chile, mexico and california, the water demands for avocado puts pressure on overall water resources. avocado production is also connected to other concerns, including environmental justice and human rights concerns, deforestation and connections of mexican avocados with organized crime. climate change is expected to cause significant changes in the suitable growing zones for avocados, and put additional pressure due to heat waves and drought.the fruit of domestic varieties has a buttery flesh when ripe. depending on the variety, avocados have green, brown, purplish, or black skin when ripe, and may be pear-shaped, egg-shaped, or spherical. commercially, the fruits are picked while immature, and ripened after harvesting. the high fat and smooth texture of avocados make it a useful and diverse food in different cuisines, and is traditionally important in mexican foods. the high nutritional value and concentration of fat, make avocados a commonly used food in vegetarian foods and generally is thought nutritious and healthy.

Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, the seeds of berries from certain flowering plants in the coffea genus. from the coffee fruit, the seeds are separated to produce a stable, raw product: unroasted green coffee. the seeds are then roasted, a process which transforms them into a consumable product: roasted coffee, which is ground into fine particles that are typically steeped in hot water before being filtered out, producing a cup of coffee. coffee is darkly colored, bitter, slightly acidic and has a stimulating effect in humans, primarily due to its caffeine content. it is one of the most popular drinks in the world and can be prepared and presented in a variety of ways (e.g., espresso, french press, caffè latte, or already-brewed canned coffee). it is usually served hot, although chilled or iced coffee is common. sugar, sugar substitutes, milk or cream are often used to lessen the bitter taste or enhance the flavor. it may be served with coffee cake or another sweet dessert, like doughnuts. a commercial establishment that sells prepared coffee beverages is known as a coffeehouse or coffee shop (not to be confused with dutch coffeeshops selling cannabis). clinical research indicates that moderate coffee consumption is benign or mildly beneficial as a stimulant in healthy adults, with continuing research on whether long-term consumption has positive or negative effects.though coffee is now a global commodity, it has a long history tied closely to food traditions around the red sea. the earliest credible evidence of the drinking of coffee in the form of the modern beverage appears in modern-day yemen from the mid-15th century in sufi shrines, where coffee seeds were first roasted and brewed in a manner similar to current methods. the yemenis procured the coffee beans from the ethiopian highlands via coastal somali intermediaries and began cultivation. by the 16th century, the drink had reached the rest of the middle east and north africa, later spreading to europe. in the 20th century, coffee became a much more global commodity, creating different coffee cultures around the world. the two most commonly grown coffee bean types are c. arabica and c. robusta. coffee plants are cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in the equatorial regions of the americas, southeast asia, the indian subcontinent, and africa. as of 2018, brazil was the leading grower of coffee beans, producing 35% of the world total. coffee is a major export commodity as the leading legal agricultural export for numerous countries. it is one of the most valuable commodities exported by developing countries. green, unroasted coffee is the most traded agricultural commodity and one of the most traded commodities overall, second only to petroleum. despite the sales of coffee reaching billions of dollars, those actually producing the beans are disproportionately living in poverty. critics also point to the coffee industry's negative impact on the environment and the clearing of land for coffee-growing and water use. the environmental costs and wage disparity of farmers are causing the market for fair trade and organic coffee to expand.

Jallab (arabic: جلاب / ala-lc: jallāb) is a type of fruit syrup popular in the middle east made from carob, dates, grape molasses and rose water. jallab is very popular in palestine, syria, jordan, lebanon and egypt. it is made mainly of grape molasses, grenadine syrup, and rose water, then smoked with arabic incense. it is usually sold with crushed ice and floating pine nuts and raisins.

Masala chai (, lit. 'mixed-spice tea'; hindi: मसाला चाय) is an indian tea beverage made by boiling black tea in milk and water with a mixture of aromatic herbs and spices. originating in india the beverage has gained worldwide popularity, becoming a feature in many coffee and tea houses. the term chai originated from the hindi word chai, which was derived from the chinese word for tea, cha (see etymology of tea). in english, this spiced tea is commonly referred to as masala chai, or simply chai, even though the term refers to tea in general in the original language. according to stories, it originates from modern india and said that the king created masala chai as an ayurvedic energizing and refreshing beverage. numerous coffee houses use the term chai latte or chai tea latte for their version to indicate that it is made with steamed milk, much like that used to make a caffè latte, but mixed with a spiced tea concentrate instead of espresso. by 1994, the term had gained currency on the u.s. coffeehouse scene.

Qamar al-din (arabic: قمر الدين, lit. 'moon of the religion') is an apricot fruit leather, which is popularly made into apricot juice or nectar beverage from arab cuisine that is famously consumed during the muslim holy month of ramadan. it is believed to be from syria. it was first produced in the ghouta, where the variety of apricots most suitable for qamar al-din was first grown. qamar al-din is enjoyed across the middle east and north africa as well as in somalia, though syrian qamar al-din is still believed to be the best because the variety of apricots most suitable for making qamar al-din grow only in syria and southwestern turkey. it is known as lavāshak (persian: لواشک) in iran and is served as a dried fruit roll.

Sharbat (persian: شربت, pronounced [ʃæɾˈbæt]; also transliterated as shorbot, şerbet or sherbet) is an iranian drink also popular in turkey, south asia, caucasus and the balkans. it is prepared from fruits or flower petals. it is a sweet cordial, and usually served chilled. it can be served in concentrated form and eaten with a spoon or diluted with water to create the drink. popular sharbats are made of one or more of the following: basil seeds, rose water, fresh rose petals, sandalwood, bael, hibiscus, lemon, orange, mango, pineapple, falsa (grewia asiatica) and chia seeds. sharbat is common in homes of iran, turkey, bosnia, arab world, afghanistan, pakistan, sri lanka, bangladesh and india, and popularly consumed by muslims when breaking their daily fast during the month of ramadan.a south indian version commonly called sarbbath is popular in kerala, tamil nadu and andhra pradesh, regions wherein a specially made syrup of indian sarsaparilla and lemon is dissolved in milk or soda water. an indonesian, especially javanese, drink called serbat' is commonly found during the month of ramadan. the most popular is made by mixing cold water, simple syrup, and shredded cantaloupe, popularly known as serbat blewah or cantaloupe sherbet.

Tamarind (tamarindus indica) is a leguminous tree bearing edible fruit that is probably indigenous to tropical africa. the genus tamarindus is monotypic, meaning that it contains only this species. it belongs to the family fabaceae. the tamarind tree produces brown, pod-like fruits that contain a sweet, tangy pulp, which is used in cuisines around the world. the pulp is also used in traditional medicine and as a metal polish. the tree's wood can be used for woodworking and tamarind seed oil can be extracted from the seeds. tamarind's tender young leaves are used in indian and filipino cuisine. because tamarind has multiple uses, it is cultivated around the world in tropical and subtropical zones.

Tea is an aromatic beverage prepared by pouring hot or boiling water over cured or fresh leaves of camellia sinensis, an evergreen shrub native to china, india and other east asian countries. tea is also rarely made from the leaves of camellia taliensis. after water, it is the most widely consumed drink in the world. there are many different types of tea; some have a cooling, slightly bitter, and astringent flavour, while others have vastly different profiles that include sweet, nutty, floral, or grassy notes. tea has a stimulating effect in humans primarily due to its caffeine content.tea plants are native to east asia and probably originated in the borderlands of southwestern china and northern burma. an early credible record of tea drinking dates to the third century ad, in a medical text written by hua tuo. it was popularised as a recreational drink during the chinese tang dynasty, and tea drinking subsequently spread to other east asian countries. portuguese priests and merchants introduced it to europe during the 16th century. during the 17th century, drinking tea became fashionable among the english, who started to plant tea on a large scale in india. the term herbal tea refers to drinks not made from camellia sinensis. they are the infusions of fruit, leaves, or other plant parts, such as steeps of rosehip, chamomile, or rooibos. these may be called tisanes or herbal infusions to prevent confusion with tea made from the tea plant.

Vimto is a soft drink first sold in lancashire in the united kingdom. it was first manufactured as a health tonic in cordial form, then decades later as a carbonated drink. it contains the juice of grapes, raspberries and blackcurrants (in a 3% concentration), flavoured with herbs and spices. the original recipe was invented in 1908 by john noel nichols. nichols grew up in the scottish town of shortridge. vimto has also been made into a sweet (made under licence by mccowan's) and an ice lolly. it is available in cans and bottles and as a draught soft drink in pubs.

Arabic coffee is a version of the brewed coffee of coffea arabica beans. most arab countries throughout the middle east have developed distinct methods for brewing and preparing coffee. cardamom is an often-added spice, but it can alternatively be served plain or with sugar. there are several different styles to brewing the coffee depending on the preference of the drinker. some methods keep the coffee light whereas others can make it dark. arabic coffee is bitter, and typically no sugar is added. it is usually served in a small cup that is adorned with a decorative pattern, known as a finjān. culturally, arabic coffee is served during family gatherings or when receiving guests. arabic coffee is ingrained within middle eastern and arab culture and tradition, and is the most popular form of coffee brewed in the middle east. it originated in the middle east, beginning in yemen and eventually travelling to mecca (hejaz), egypt, the levant, and then, in the mid-16th century, to turkey and from there to europe where coffee eventually became popular as well. arabic coffee is an intangible cultural heritage of arab states confirmed by unesco.

Coffea arabica (), also known as the arabic coffee, is a species of flowering plant in the coffee and madder family rubiaceae. it is believed to be the first species of coffee to have been cultivated, and is currently the dominant cultivar, representing about 60% of global production. coffee produced from the (less acidic, more bitter, and more highly caffeinated) robusta bean (c. canephora) makes up most of the remaining coffee production. arabica coffee originates from ethiopia and was first cultivated in yemen, and documented by the 12th century. coffea arabica is called ‏بُنّ‎ (būnn) in arabic, borrowed from the oromo "buna".
